Got Saldameer

Het Saldameer or Salda göl

The beautiful Salda Lake, also called "the Turkish Maldives", is also nearby, where you can enjoy walking, cycling and swimming in the summer. It is estimated that Lake Salda was formed about 2 million years ago. This crater lake is one of the deepest (184 m), clearest and cleanest tectonic lakes in Turkey. The characteristics of Lake Salda are the white sandy beaches and the turquoise water, because there is magnesium in the water, the sand gets its white color. If something is in the water for a long time it will turn white and this proves that the lake is still producing magnesium at this time.

Lake Salda is very special for another reason because it is 1 of the two places in the world where features of the planet Mars occur, because the white clayey soil on the shores of Lake Salda also occur on Mars.

Lake Salda and the surrounding black pine forests have native plant and animal species unique to this region. There are 3 species of freshwater fish in the lake and around the lake in the woods there are animals such as wild boars, foxes and turtles. Two species of mullein grow only on the southern shore of Lake Salda.

In winter you can ski on one of the mountains in the Salda Kayak Merkezi or the Ski Center of Salda.
