Tlos

Tlos

Tlos, was one of the largest and oldest cities in Lycia, located on a hill on the east side of the Xanthos valley. Tlos is considered one of the most important religious cities of Lycia, and the city is one of the few Lycian cities that has been continuously inhabited for thousands of years (until the 19th century). In addition to the city walls from Luwian and Roman times, an agora, theatre, stadium, market, gymnasium, bathhouse, cistern and remains of a Byzantine church have been excavated. In addition to ancient Greek and Roman remains, there are also ruins of Ottoman fortresses at the site. There is also a large necropolis, with tombs and rock tombs.

What impresses most here is the silence in which you can hike to the top of Tlos. At the top you can walk around and admire the beautiful valley from all sides. If you drive through the valley, which is full of all kinds of crops such as olive trees and mandarin trees, you should not be surprised if suddenly a farmer with herd of sheep or goats crosses the road. The scents of the countryside will meet you here. There are several farms and olive factories here. Gizlikent Şelalesi, Saklıkent National Park and Yakapark are also located in this valley, so you can also combine several excursions in 1 day.
